One of the things that we try not to take for granted is the beautiful landscape that we live in. We are surrounded by volcanic mountains, rolling seas and dramatic nature-scapes. Of all the places on the coastline of the archipelago of Madeira, this cliff edge is one of the most dramatic of spots. And the whole house looks down here at this tiny crescent of farms with the rolling sea and incredible sunsets, perched inside a year-long warm micro-climate.

This home, set on the cliffs of Madeira’s coastline, stands as a witness to every sunset, every storm that rolls in from the ocean. We took a site that seemed impossible—a rugged rock face—and transformed it into a dreamscape. A sanctuary, carved from the earth, yet elevated into the sky.
